About
A. Morgan Sayers is an interdisciplinary artist and educator with formal training and practice in both studio and hybrid arts with a background in exhibition design and curating. In all realms of her work and life, she creates experiences that engage students and the public to foster a sense of belonging. Sayers works collaboratively with artists, educators, and members of the Chicago community as an activist using art as a conduit to search for innovative ways to talk about racism, ask questions, find solutions, and deepen relationships.
Outside of museums and classrooms, her unique combination of skills in both traditional and contemporary methods of making, designing, and educating has led her to create a portfolio of work that often uses media but is ultimately devoted to craft and the balance of process and concept in both two and three-dimensional realms.
Sayers received her BFA in Studio Art from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University with a Minor in Art History in 2009 and MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts & Media from Columbia College Chicago in 2016. Before her time at Columbia College, she worked as an exhibition designer, curator, and teaching assistant for Virginia Tech’s School Of Visual Arts. Her work has been included in group exhibitions in Chicago and throughout the East Coast, and she was the featured artist in Fashion and the Female at The Arts Center of Greenwood, SC. Sayers has work in public and private collections, including the Capital One Permanent Collection in Richmond, VA.
Most recently, Sayers guest curated the exhibition Let’s Stand for Something or We’ll Fall for Anything at the Armory Gallery at Virginia Tech and served as the 2022 Lead Teaching Artist for the Smart Museum’s flagship summer teen program partnered with the Chicago Housing Authority. Along with her own artist practice, she is currently an Adjunct Professor in Art & Design at Chicago State University and the Modern & Contemporary Art and Career Prep Instructor at SAE Institute Chicago since 2019.
